AUSXIP.com contest, update

I have four of my digitally colored pieces in the contest at AUSXIP.com. I probably could have submitted a couple pencil drawings as well, oh well...mine are in the Drawings and Paintings section. Lots of other great artists, I have to say my fave is Barbara Maclay's Ancient Greek style Xena and Gab, I really love that one. As far as new stuff...I've been busy practising my wood-burning (grrr) and I tryed drawing Toki and Skwisgaar from Dethklok maybe I'll put them up I don't know. Toki's the only one I colored. I wanted to do an interpretation of them for fun. Howl at ya later.

About basswood...

I decided to look up basswood (what I did the wood-burning a couple posts back on) at Wikipedia: I was pleasantly surprised by the connection to Freyja, though her being "the wife of Wodan" is debatable, it's best explained on the the entry on Freyja or rather here on the page about Frigg. Wood burning

I've decided to teach myself woodburning aka pyrography... I don't know , I had a thought it might be a good thing to take up...After practising a little bit with some rune and star designs on some scrap wood I had I decided to go for it and came up with this:

This is a runestone design from the "Viking Designs" book I like to practise from. I decided that might actually be easier then attempting a wolf or person right away....I just sketched it out from the book, left in the runes, I don't know what these spell exactly so please don't ask. The wood is just basswood and for now it's unfinished, I don't think I'll be coloring it since I really like it like this and I have to practise with that first anyway. Also since the piece was small enough, I just placed it in my scanner like you would paper, it actually did'nt look too bad I thought, so I used that image to save me digging out my camera. (for now)

I have no idea about that one, so I took it off for now.

*note*I've removed the colored version of this one cause I just don't care for it, mainly the background I added, I don't know it just looks yucky and there's just too much going on....yes I'm my own worst critic. I'm BRUTAL. You can still kind of see it in my heading logo for the blogs, though I might change that too. Anyway I still feel the drawing itself is great and I'm proud of it, and people like it, my sister's hubby's niece's hubby said it would make a cool tattoo (I get that kind of comment a lot or I should go into tattooing (!) I don't know about that.....) Anyway, back to the drawing , you can also view it here at my ArtWanted.com page, it's also at deviantART in the Scraps section. I'll probably try recoloring it, just give it a little wash of color and shadow cause thats all it needs really. I do have a couple projects on my desktop that have to be finished first. 2006. Pen drawing colored in the GIMP , runes and writing added. Posting this one since it's Friday and Friday is named after her (though some say it's after her twin brother Freyr or Frigga, Odin's wife) I've made her eyes the way they are to make her look more like a goddess, since I get a few people who think they are just regular people if they see me drawing from photos I use for models. Of course I dress them different and they have weapons and magical things..... Also I think it looks cooler Let me know if I should make prints available for sale, since I'm looking at a few options to do that (NOT Cafepress by the way) Howl at ya later!!

New Art: "Hildr"

2006 Pen drawing colored with GIMP. The Valkyrie Hildr (Battle) with spear and shield. I adimit the profile could be better, since it is another that I just drew from imagination and not a model as I did with the previous Valkyries, but I'm quite pleased with the coloring and shading. Classic Diamond: Doro Pesch (redone)

2005/2006 Black Pen, then scanned and colored with GIMP. This a portrait I drew last year of the mighty Doro Pesch from the back cover of my copy of her Classic Diamonds cd. note: This is a reworked version of the art I posted earlier...shading and coloring have been redone, along with adding a metallic texture. Also changed the title.
Next I'll be working on: a new logo for the Den, Valkyrie Xena from The Rheingold (new, BETTER version from the show), and another in my Valkyrie series, Hildr and a small Geri & Freki pic (Those are Odin's two wolves in case you don't know). These drawings have all been finished, they just need to be colored. Howl at ya later!!

Valkyrie Portrait

This is a pen drawing of a Valkyrie I did last year, that I scanned and colored in GIMP, I used it to practice my coloring in GIMP...I kind of feel the drawing could have been a lot better...anyway I like how the coloring turned out though that could be better too, but I'll post it here. The younger Futhark runes spell "Shieldmaiden" and "Hail The Valkyrie". Howl at ya later!!!

February 2006 Pencil Drawing. The Goddess Freyja with her LYNX (I liked the idea of lynx better then regular cats, though Freyja's cats are'nt really regular cats....anyway...) Also her shield's heart design is not really Norse or Viking at all, it came from a pillar candle holder I own. I thought the design would be appropriate for the Queen of the Valkyries who rules over both war and love. She also has her Brisingamen necklace and her magic falcon feather cloak. January 2006 - Pencil drawing. Skadi (also known as Skade, Skathi, Skadhi, Skaði) is the daughter of the giant (Jotun) Thjazi and inheriter of his home, Thrymheim. She is associated with archery, hunting, skiing, and snowshoes, also with wolves. Needless to say, she is my favorite of the Goddesses. She is a goddess of winter, vengeance and weregild (for her father's death) hunting, and independence and strength (particularly for women) This is a vision of her in her armor with her bow, she is also often depicted in furs and skins , being a huntress and all Visit Skadi's page at Germanic Goddesses, click here, to read more about her and also visit a site dedicated to her, Skadavé for some beautiful poetry and articles.
