Protect Our Great Lakes
The Saginaw Bay is the largest watershed in Michigan. More than 50 miles of its rivers that empty into Lake Huron are threatened by dioxin and other highly hazardous chemicals. Federal and state laws require Dow Chemical Company, the responsible party, to clean up the contamination. However, pressure to resolve this issue behind closed doors is mounting. Public participation in an open transparent process is the best way to assure cleanup will be comprehensive and will restore the region to health.

Help stop the Wild Bison Slaughter
Some of America’s last free-roaming wild bison are being slaughtered on a scale not seen since the 1800s. And hundreds more could to be killed.
Take action now! Write the Montana Promotion Division -- the state’s tourism officials -- and speak out for sensible wildlife management of these American icons!
This year alone, more than 1,100 bison have been killed -- nearly a quarter of the wild population. This is no way to manage one of the most beloved icons of the American West. We need your voice to stop it.
Take action to show strong support for major changes to the way wild bison are managed in Montana.

WOLVERINES!!

Sorry for the Red Dawn quote, when I saw this I could'nt resist.... From Defenders of Wildlife:
The Bush/Cheney administration has spurned the wolverine again, defying scientific evidence and refusing to list this rare creature under the Endangered Species Act.
New scientific evidence reported by Defenders of Wildlife documents the wolverine's uncertain future, raising concerns about the effects of global warming and continued trapping of this elusive carnivore.
But despite the growing body of scientific evidence, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has released a court-ordered decision declaring for the second time that it will do nothing to assist this rare creature -- leaving the wolverine in desperate straits.
We need to let the Bush/Cheney administration know that we strongly believe wolverines and their habitat need federal protection, before it's too late.

Stop Wolf Killing in the Northern Rockies!
After more than a decade of conservation efforts and millions of federal dollars, wolves are finally returning to the northern Rockies.
Now, the Bush administration plans to remove wolves from the Endangered Species List and allow the states of Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana to wipe out nearly 80 percent of all the wolves remaining in the Northern Rockies!
The Wyoming Plan allows anyone to kill any wolf that wanders outside a small area in the northwest corner of the state. The plan would even target animals that live for most of the year in Yellowstone National Park but only wander out in the winter in search of food.

Stop the Bush/Cheney Sneak Attack on Wolves
Help us stop them. Sign the petition today to send a message to U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne and urge him to abandon efforts to let states start killing wolves and to delay de-listing of gray wolves in the Northern Rockies.

Stop Japan's whaling program
Lucy signs Anti-Whaling Petition...
The Australian Government (after the election of the Rudd Labor
Government and 11 years of gross inaction by our version of the
Republicans) is going after the Japanese boats which are hunting whales
for "scientific purposes" (a load of horse poop).
Japan's whaling fleet set sail last month with plans to catch more than
1000 whales, including 50 humpbacks!
Meanwhile across the ditch to kiwi land, the following appeared in
today's The Dominion (Stuff.co.nz) :

PM backs anti-whaling campaign
The prime minister has swung behind a campaign to stop Japanese whaling,
as Australia prepares to send planes and an armed ship to monitor the
whaling fleet near Antarctica.
The Dominion Post began a campaign this week to halt the slaughter by
Japan of up to 50 threatened humpback whales, 50 endangered fin whales
and 935 minke whales.
By last night, more than 2100 people had signed an online petition
urging the Japanese Government "to abandon its abhorrent whaling
programme", including actress Lucy Lawless, singer Hollie Smith and
radio and television presenter Marcus Lush.

Save Vottovaara.
The old Pagan cult place in the Republic of Karelia (part of the Russian Federation) is in danger. Vottovaara was only "discovered" in 1978, and it consists of about 1500 sacred seita rocks, peculiar kind of rocks that were used as sacred sacrifical sites by the pre-Christian Finnic peoples. It is widely assumed that Vottovaara mountain was a sacred place for the Pagans living in the area. Vottovaara is sometimes even titled as the "Northern Stonehenge". Unfortunately, the government of the Republic of Karelia is now planning to start mining operations at the mountain, very close to seita rock formations. The use of explosives at the mine puts these sacred formations in real danger. Click here to read more and sign the petition. Site is in English and Finnish, click here to see photos of Vottovaara.

Protect Our Wildlife - Jumpstart a Clean Energy Future!
The clock is ticking for arctic foxes, penguins, caribous and many other majestic species.
Global warming is the most dangerous threat to the future of wildlife. But there is still time to help move forward essential energy legislation to fight global warming - and protect wildlife habitat!
The U.S. House and Senate passed great pieces of energy legislation this summer, filled with landmark energy and vehicle efficiency provisions designed to reduce global warming pollution. Now, can the two chambers bring their bills together into one final law?
Congress MUST pass an energy bill in 2007 to lay the groundwork for strong, comprehensive global warming legislation in 2008 and beyond. Spark your representatives to move this legislation to the finish line. Ask them to pass a bill that:
- Requires the use of more renewable electricity;
- Requires automobiles to go farther on a gallon of gas; and
- Protects our public lands and wildlife from oil and gas drilling.
Jumpstart America's Energy Future!

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.Thirty five years ago, Congress put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead. It's time to stop aerial hunting once and for all.
Rep. George Miller (CA) has introduced the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, legislation to close a federal loophole and curb Alaska's brutal aerial hunting program -- and prevent programs like it from spreading to places like the Greater Yellowstone region.
Please urge your Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to Rep. George Miller's PAW Act.
