Ashley Judd Asks Obama to Save Wolves

From Defenders.org:

Please Help Run Our New Ad to Stop the Wolf Killing

In March 2009, the Obama administration eliminated life-saving protections for wolves in the northern Rockies and Greater Yellowstone -- a premature decision that has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of wolves in the region.

Now even pregnant wolves in Idaho are in the crosshairs!

Defenders of Wildlife and activist and actress Ashley Judd have put together a powerful new ad to convince President Obama to act to stop the killing. We need your help to run it on CNN and MSNBC in Washington, DC to convince the president to restore federal protections for these amazing animals.

Please donate today to help run this powerful new ad and help us fight on the ground and in the courts to save the lives of wolves and other imperiled wildlife.

Urge outdoor retailers to stop sponsoring wolf-killing "derbies"

From Defenders Of Wildlife:

This is outrageous.

This winter, Cabela’s and Sportsmans Warehouse, two major outdoor retailers , sponsored predator derbies in Idaho where formerly protected wolves were targeted by contestants who vied to see who could kill the most wolves and other animals over a two-day period.

Worse, the entry fees for these brutal competitions were then funneled to support anti-wolf lawyers working to keep wolves in Greater Yellowstone off the endangered species list.

Wildlife-loving people fought too hard for too long to rescue wolves in the northern Rockies from the brink of extinction to silently tolerate corporate sponsorship of bloody competitions like this.

That’s why I’ve joined Defenders of Wildlife’s fight to get Cabela’s and Sportsman’s Warehouse to withdraw their support for predator derbies that target wolves, and I am hoping you will too.

Please sign the petition online at http://action.defenders.org/wolfderbies.

Thanks for helping…

Help End Mexican Wolf Baiting in Southwest Forests

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, located in eastern Arizona where Mexican gray wolves roam, has proposed a new policy requiring proper disposal of livestock carcasses -- the first time livestock owners would be tasked with responsibility to prevent conflicts with wolves. Please voice your support for this policy.

Tell Congress to Ban Wildlife Poisons!

Recently, the Bush Administration stripped endangered species protection from gray wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies. These wolves face a range of threats, including the use of two toxic chemicals in government-run predator control programs. Please ask your Representative to support HR 4775, a bill banning two deadly poisons that kill gray wolves and many other wildlife species.
